The International Chess Federation has introduced a new organizational structure designed to modernize its operations and clarify responsibilities across governing bodies and administrative departments. The restructuring reflects recognition that the world is changing rapidly, with technology creating fresh opportunities and international organizations facing evolving expectations. Chess itself is experiencing significant growth in its audience and engagement, prompting FIDE to adapt its approach.

FIDE President Timur Turlov presented the changes as a foundational step toward building a sustainable governance system capable of supporting chess development for years to come. The new structure maintains the General Assembly as the supreme governing body while strengthening the FIDE Council's role in setting strategic priorities. A dedicated Governance Secretariat will support the work of governing bodies and commissions.

The President's Office will concentrate on strategic priorities and major international projects, supported by Special Representatives of the President assigned to specific areas. Adil Kozhikhov has been appointed Head of the President's Office. A new Advisory Board will bring together professionals with international experience across various fields to help develop long-term strategy and evaluate new initiatives.

Leadership appointments reflect the Federation's commitment to combining experienced professionals with fresh perspectives. Alina Dvoretskaya, formerly Director General of the International School Chess Federation, takes the role of Secretary General to manage day-to-day operations. Darmen Sadvakasov, a grandmaster from Kazakhstan, chairs the Advisory Board.

The reorganization aims to increase support for national federations, expand chess education, and attract international partners while leveraging modern technology for greater effectiveness. Turlov emphasized that success will be measured by tangible results benefiting national federations and the broader chess community. The structure establishes a coherent system in which every part of the organization works toward implementing shared strategic goals.
