FIDE President Timur Turlov has announced an Extraordinary General Assembly scheduled for December 27 at 14:30 CET. The online meeting was formally invited on October 26 and represents the first full gathering of federation delegates since Turlov became president. The assembly follows through on his earlier commitment to hold another General Assembly before 2026 ended.

Turlov convened the meeting pursuant to a FIDE Council decision. He indicated that the gathering will address outstanding matters from the Samarkand General Assembly held in late September, complete unfinished work, and make decisions necessary for FIDE's ongoing functioning and development. The full agenda and supporting documents will be distributed by November 27, giving delegates a month to review materials before the meeting.

Several items from the Samarkand assembly remain unresolved and may appear on the December agenda. The Council is preparing budgets for 2027 and provisionally for 2028, which an online assembly in late 2026 was designated to review. Four nominees for Honorary Vice-President await Council approval, the 2030 Olympiad placement in Qatar remains subject to guarantees with Georgia as backup, and a Chess960 rating system approved in Samarkand has an implementation deadline of June 1, 2027.

Invitations extend to delegates and representatives of affiliated organizations, zonal council members, commission chairs, both world champions, management and advisory board members, and other officials. The invitation does not include the voting procedures, quorum requirements, or registration deadlines. Technical access details and the formal agenda will follow the November 27 distribution of supporting documents.
