IM Levy Rozman made the trip to Bayern Munich to face two of soccer's brightest stars at the chessboard. The visit took place just two days after Kane claimed the Ballon d'Or in London, one of sport's most coveted individual awards. Bayern shared photos from the encounter across their social media platforms to millions of followers worldwide.
Rozman released a video of his game against Kane, who emerged as the victor when Rozman lost on time on move 27. In his analysis, Rozman praised Kane's positional understanding and told the striker that his play was precise enough to suggest a rating around 2000. Kane's chess journey began after watching the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit, which inspired him to learn the game.
Olise, Kane's Bayern teammate, has also cultivated a serious interest in chess. His mother taught him the fundamentals before he continued learning on his own. Olise has set a target rating of 1500 and acknowledged that chess presents a significant challenge, even for someone of his competitive caliber.
The meet-up between Rozman and the Bayern players formed part of a larger European tour. Rozman's journey began in Cologne and included the Munich stop, with additional events planned for cities across the continent through early November.
