Total Chess has assembled a broadcast team for its pilot event in Budapest, pairing experienced tournament commentators with a new highlight show concept. Levy Rozman, known as GothamChess, will lead the Total Chess Highlight Show as its principal presenter. The main tournament broadcast will feature Anna Rudolf, Fiona Steil-Antoni, David Howell and Jovanka Houska in presenting and commentary roles.
Rudolf will serve dual responsibilities during the event, both anchoring the main broadcast and reporting from the Budapest venue. Her on-site role will provide viewers with behind-the-scenes access and exclusive content from the competition, offering perspective on the players and dynamics shaping the tournament.
The highlight show represents a shift in how Total Chess plans to deliver content to viewers. Rather than focusing solely on games and analysis, the program will feature player interviews, conversations with guest appearances, and narrative-driven coverage of the tournament's key moments. This format aims to give audiences a closer connection to the personalities competing in the event.
The Budapest pilot runs from November 10 to 20, 2026, and will feature 24 of the world's leading players competing across three time controls: Fast Classic, Rapid and Blitz. Magnus Carlsen headlines the field as the reigning world number one. The pilot serves as a testing ground for both the competitive format and broadcast presentation before the inaugural Total Chess World Championship Tour season begins in 2027.
Rozman expressed enthusiasm about bringing a fresh approach to chess coverage, emphasizing the goal of moving beyond traditional tournament broadcasts to highlight the drama and personalities within elite competition. Rudolf echoed this sentiment, calling the event with Magnus Carlsen and the multi-format structure a must-follow competition. The dual broadcast strategy reflects Total Chess's aim to engage both established chess audiences and viewers new to the sport.
