Ulf Andersson will host the Svarta Hästen Invitational in Stockholm on Thursday, 29 October, celebrating his 75th birthday year alongside friends and fellow grandmasters. The event comes just days after his induction into the World Chess Hall of Fame on 24 October in Saint Louis.

The 16-player rapid tournament brings together established names from Swedish chess with a younger generation. Grandmasters Pia Cramling, Ferdinand Hellers, Harry Schüssler and Juan Bellon Lopez will compete, along with chess creator Anna Cramling. International masters Thomas Engqvist and Nils-Gustaf Renman also join the field of other Swedish chess figures.

Andersson reached fourth in the world rankings in 1983 and spent much of the 1980s among the top ten. He became a grandmaster in 1972 and earned recognition for his positional understanding and exceptional endgame technique. His career established him as one of Sweden's greatest players.

Andersson initiated the tournament together with Håkan Östling, Carl Fredrik Johansson and Svarta Hästen. The event emphasises friendships built during his long career, with several participants personally invited by Andersson himself. Pia and Anna Cramling's participation adds a family connection spanning generations of the chess community.

The tournament runs for seven rounds at Svarta Hästen Chess and Wine in central Stockholm. Players will have 15 minutes per game with a five-second increment after every move. Play begins at 10:00 CET, with the final round finishing at approximately 16:15 CET.

The venue has limited space, so the event will take place without spectators. Fans can follow the games online through Chess.com, with full participant information and the schedule available on the official tournament website.
