Hikaru Nakamura dominated the first 3+0 Thursday tournament on October 22, finishing with a 9/10 score that earned him clear first place on tiebreaks. Nakamura employed the GOAT Horns Variation as Black throughout the event, scoring 4.5/5 with the black pieces despite some precarious positions. His performance with White was equally strong, particularly a ninth-round victory against Maxim Matlakov. A loss to Sina Movahed in the final round could have threatened his standing, but Parham Maghsoodloo's defeat to Jeffery Xiong secured Nakamura's victory.
The tournament concluded with a four-way tie for first place. Sergei Zhigalko, Oleksandr Bortnyk, and Xiong joined Nakamura at the top, but Nakamura's superior tiebreak score determined the winner. Meri Arabidze claimed the women's prize with 6.5 points. Nakamura's triumph capped a particularly productive week that also included victories in Bullet Brawl and Titled Tuesday.
Fabiano Caruana entered the second 3+0 Thursday after competing in a U.S. Championship playoff, which he lost to Wesley So. His tournament performance proved redemptive, as he won his first five games before surrendering a point to Dmitry Andreikin. Caruana recovered to win four consecutive games, including a ninth-round rook endgame against Zhigalko and a tenth-round Blumenfeld Gambit display. He finished with 9.5 points to claim outright first place.
Andreikin secured second place with 8.5 points, edging Matlakov on tiebreaks. The women's prize went to Anastasiia Hnatyshyn with six points. Caruana's victory marked his second consecutive 3+0 Thursday title, repeating his success from the previous week.
Parham Maghsoodloo captured the third 3+0 Thursday by a 1.5-point margin, extending his recent dominance in the format. After losing to Hamidreza Tahmasebi in the third round, Maghsoodloo rebounded with four straight wins, then went undefeated in his final five games. A tenth-round victory over Tuan Minh Le using the London System moved him into the lead, and he clinched first with a dominant final-round performance against David Paravyan.
Maghsoodloo's 9.5-point finish gave him his 10th 3+0 Thursday title, making him just the third player to achieve that milestone. Christopher Yoo took second with eight points, followed by Renato Terry on tiebreaks. Karina Ambartsumova won the women's prize for the 22nd time, extending her record. Maghsoodloo now trails only Terry's 18 victories and Martinez's 15 titles in the tournament's history.
